Episode 22 w/ David Njabulo Whiters, PhD, LCSW - Practice Prosperity

David has more than 10 years’ experience in nonprofit management, focusing on substance use recovery and infectious disease (HIV and Hepatitis C) prevention and education. His work centers primarily but not exclusively on African Americans. His areas of expertise include program development, program administration, grant writing, community organizing, and growing and sustaining nonprofit organizations.

David obtained a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) certification and a Medication Assisted Treatment Specialist (MATS) certification. This latter credential certifies me as a subject matter expert on opioid addiction, opioid treatment, and opioid recovery.

David is a National Certification as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) and a Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist/Certified Peer Specialist-Addictive Diseases (CARES/CPS-AD).

David has dedicated his life and career to empowering the disenfranchised, particularly substance users, people living with HIV and HCV, ethnic minorities, those low in socioeconomic status, and the homeless.


David currently serves as a Founding Member and Interim Executive Director of the African American Federation of Recovery Organizations (AAFRO). This national organization is charged with the responsibility of raising funds and providing the Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) necessary for establishing African American peer-led RCO in majority African American communities.
